The more eagle-eyed of you might have noticed I’ve been enjoying a brief sabbatical from this place. Now, I’m eager to move this post beyond just one of those “I haven’t been posting for a while” posts or one of those “Here’s a bit of a holding message, as I might not be posting a while” posts. There is probably more to it than that. Plus, those posts, certainly when executed by me, aren’t that interesting. The draft post I’ve since scrapped for being boring, self-indulgent and basically pointless is evidence enough of that. Riding the bus through Slade Green at dawn

Over the past few months I’ve been getting up rather early on a Saturday morning and taking the bus to my local supermarket. The bus takes a rather circuitous journey, but as it is door-to-door I don’t mind too much. Said route takes me through Slade Green. Slade Green has a rather shabby reputation. Nobody really aspires to live there. The town’s location, on the edge of the Thames, surrounded my marshland, makes it feel pretty isolated. There is no passing traffic, apart from buses with idiosyncratic routes.

A few notes on last year, this year

This week feels like a limbo week. I’m used to feeling that way in the days between Christmas and New Year, but those feelings have persisted. I’m sure it is just a trick of the calendar.
