Steve’s Blog Post Idea Challenge
by Steve
Well, a couple of weeks back I asked for some feedback on this ol’ place. A massive thank you to everyone who got back to me. You really are the loveliest readership anyone could wish for.
I also stated:
“While I don’t have any worthwhile material goods to offer as an incentive/prize, I’m happy to pull a name out of the hat, and that person can commission a blog post from me on the subject of their choice.”
Now, apologies for shifting the goalposts somewhat, but how about this: if you request a blog post in the comments below, I’ll give it a go. Essentially, you can all be winners! Whether you fed back or not! And I’ll have some new ideas about what to blog about! Hurrah!
I will sincerely try my best to respond to every suggestion with a post, but please don’t expect 3,000 word tracts. Your correspondent is willing, but he is a little lazy. Anyway, fire away, and I’ll see what I can do. You can suggest subject matters, post titles, juxtapositions, whatever you think might be appropriate or might make for interesting reading.
And if you still fancy giving your two cents/pennies worth on this blog then please do!
Thanks in advance readers!
How about a travel post with a slight difference – one about a time when the journey really was more important than the destination?
Favourite comfort foods and why they comfort you.
A book you can quote from without needing to open the pages.

A friend used to do this blog where he’d play his iPod on random during his morning commute. He’s post all the songs that came up and commented on some of them along with some random observations from the trip to work. You could do the same. Check it out: http://whatilistenedtoonmywaytoworktoday.blogspot.com/ You’ll have to scroll down a bit for some posts as he sort of quit doing it a while ago. Still, it’s a worthwhile project.

Feel free to take up any/all of these:
* Last week when I was out of ideas, I briefly considered writing short fiction stories (slash, detective, Southern gothic, etc.) about the blog’s commenters. I haven’t published any, obviously, so the idea’s still out there. I bequeath it to you.
* Take a day off work. Find a stranger on the street, follow them from a fair distance for a few hours. Take note of his behaviors: does the stranger sigh heavily when he’s trapped in the back of a long Starbucks line? Did he think to use the restroom before he ordered that coffee, or will he have to navigate the men’s room with a Venti black in hand? That book he’s reading on the bus–is it one he understands and enjoys, or does he keep looking up from it, as if to see if anyone will make conversation with him? Does he tip well? At the end of the day, introduce yourself and tell the stranger what you’ve learned, then blog about the experience.
*Do you have a pet? Post adorable pictures!

That second one might get you punched in the face or arrested.

Some great ideas – thank you all so much. They have certainly got the creative juices flowing. Watch this space for some responses from me soon.
That is if I avoid getting punched in the face/arrested…

I’m always interested in the slightly left-of-centre personal stuff that tells us more about the writer behind the blog.
A fellow blogger wrote a post called “Guilty Pleasures” and then tagged several of his readers (including me) to encourage them to write their own. I did exactly that – here’s mine for reference http://slouchingtowardsthatcham.com/2011/01/20/guilty-pleasures/

Thanks Tim! I shall add that one to the list – I’ll embrace the shame!
