What does it take to turn you on?

16 February 1993. I’m just a few weeks away from becoming a teenager, but musically I’ve made my first, tentative steps in that direction. In the autumn of 1992 a school friend lent me a beat-up cassette of Nevermind. Christmas Eve I buy my first copy of Melody Maker. I continue to buy it in the New Year, discovering all these new bands, but not actually hearing many. One band is Suede. Their first two singles are number one and number four in the Melody Maker albums of the year for 1992. I’m already a little wary of any hype, so decide I probably won’t like them. Yet, this February night I tune in to the yearly British industry awards, the Brit Awards. Suede are playing. I’ll finally hear what all the fuss is about. Read the rest of this entry »

Happy Reading

Apologies for the lack of content, said the uncommitted blogger, always short of time, inspiration, motivation etc. Work is busy, so less time and energy to write. Well, that’s my excuse. To keep things ticking along, here are some other people’s words that I’ve been reading lately. They are far more illuminating and profound than anything I could produce, so this exercise is probably best for all of us. It also helps generate some kind of myth that I’m well-read and stuff. Holding Image

Yes, this is one of those lame posts where I say I’ve been terribly busy, hence the distinct lack of longer lame posts this week. So, anyway, I’ve been terribly busy, hence the lack of posts this week. Apologies and all that. I do have some ideas for future posts that I’d like to give some proper thought and effort to, or failing that, I’d like to avoid writing them for long enough that I can safely reach the point where they no longer seem relevant and I can carry on with this Not Blogging lark. In the mix…well, kind of

I’ve been toying with various online mix-y type offerings, and thought I’d share one I’ve uploaded to 8tracks, a site that offers a particularly user-friendly experience.

It’s only short, but I figured it was a start. If I get the time I might attempt something more involved, maybe use Audacity or something.

Premier League Report Card

It’s been a while since I blogged about football, and I figured the end of the Premier League season was as good a time as any to return to that particular blogging well.
