Today I brave the work Christmas meal and party. I have a festive sweater on and everything. For those interested, I shall be eating turkey and Christmas pudding rather than any of the other more esoteric menu offerings, as I believe you should always eat turkey and Christmas pudding at a Christmas meal, no matter how many Christmas meals you have each December. This week I’ve been listening to probably the least festive album ever, Manic Street Preachers’ The Holy Bible. The new remaster is excellent, for what it is worth. Funny to think that smoking used to be allowed in pubs. I remember the scaremongering when the ban came in – the predictions that nobody would go out, that every pub would close and the world would fall apart. This, of course, didn’t quite happen. I remember the early days of the ban when we all realised that without the fags pubs are really horrible, smelly places. Now the better pubs aren’t so smelly, and the bad pubs can be sniffed out, quite literally, within moments. Read the rest of this entry »
It seems to be accepted knowledge that nobody releases good Christmas songs these days. While binge-watching Christmas music video programmes I heard this song, from last year, which I think is as good as any popular Christmas song, and thus disproves that particular theory. Or maybe it is the eggnog talking. Although I don’t actually drink eggnog because I think an egg-based liqueur cocktail just isn’t right.
