Things to do in Liverpool when you’re Red
by Steve
For my thirtieth birthday I got quite possibly the best present ever from my ever-wonderful Significant Other. In the near future we’re heading up to Liverpool for a couple of days, including a pilgrimage to Anfield. I can’t wait.
But here is where you, dear reader, can help. While I’ve been up before, I’m no expert on what to do in Liverpool. Have you been, and what would you recommend? I’d love to hear about your experiences, what you enjoyed and what you’d avoid.
Or if you haven’t been, watch this space for a full report when I return.
In the meantime, I’ll actually think about contributing some more actual content here, particularly after some incredibly kind words from Steven.
It’s been a while since i was in Liverpool so there will doubtless be new things to experience. But the evergreen stuff for me usually revolves around the Red football club and The Beatles. As far as I am aware the houses of several Beatles are now National Trust owned and you can look around them. Details of where there are should be easily found with a quick Google. If you’re not into the Fab Four then why not take a ferry cross the MErsey, just to say you have? It’s a great location to take photos of the Liver Building too. Do you know about the age old legend that Liverpool Football Club would never win the FA Cup unless the bhirds flew away from their perches? Well, in 1965, when they finally won it for the first time, beating Leeds 2-1, the Liver Birds were NOT on their perch. They’d been taken down for cleaning. Spooky eh?
Other things to do would include the Anfield tour which would include the museum and a chance to see proof that yes, we were once the greatest team in Europe. And if you’re lucky, and you do the tour on a non-match day, you might see a player or two outside the ground. I saw Ian Rush in 1990 – he’d parked his car across three spaces and strolled into the ground, comfortably aware that he was untouchable by the car park attendants 😀
Are you watching a match? Hope you bring us some luck if so. Have a great time.

Thanks Steven, and nice story about the Liver Birds!
The tour and a match are part of my birthday present, which is very, very exciting. As for non-football related activities, all of those sound good. We haven’t got a whole lot of time to play with, but will certainly try to fit as much as possible in.
