Advent Calendar 2016: Day Five

Some tinsel has appeared behind my monitor at work. I’m not sure how I feel about this. I like Christmas. I like Christmas decorations. I’m perfectly fine with tinsel – I’m not fussed about keeping Christmas tasteful. However, I do have my reservations about organised fun. I’ll be the one to choose when I have fun, thank you very much. And my strip-lit, hermetically sealed office is never going to feel truly festive, no matter how much tinsel you throw at it. But then again, maybe the lack of tinsel is what makes it work somehow. I appreciate the lack of real effort. Just a bit of tinsel draped on a desk partition. It is a bit rubbish, like an office Christmas should be.

I recently left my job. I’d been there several years, long enough for there to be whispers that I might be a “lifer” in the making, but I wasn’t quite there yet. I think I departed just in time, before reaching a point where future employers wonder “Why did he spend so long there?” I also left just in time to avoid becoming institutionalised. Creeping up the food chain

After any sort of blogging absence it feels kind of obligatory to explain what brought on said absence. Unless a blog is built around particularly sporadic posts and is self-consciously produced in such a way, it would seem pretty odd to not at least acknowledge a period of blogging silence. Yet, posting up a bunch of excuses for not posting isn’t, in itself, particularly interesting either. People who are new to the site really won’t care that Mr/Mrs/Miss/Ms Blogger has been busy/uninspired/taking an internet sabbatical/etc. If anything it will probably put them off ever returning (Bye New Visitors!).
