Neither here nor there

The town I have moved to does not exist. Well, not officially, anyway. I mean, you can find road signs directing you there and if you stopped someone in the street to ask them where exactly you were they could tell you, but it isn’t a real place. You see, the post office does not recognise the town, instead allocating two different postcodes to the town, attached to two neighbouring towns. There is a pretty good case to be made that Cannonball by The Breeders was the best single of 1993. I think you could even make a case that it was the best single of the whole decade. Area Blogger Creates Ill-advised Soundcloud Mix, Shares With Uninterested Readership

I’ve had a quick play with Soundcloud’s set functionality and ended up with this little mix. It has its moments, but it also sounds in places like the curator was trying to be cool and ended up failing miserably. Anyway, it is not that long, and I figure someone might enjoy it. Obviously there are only so many tracks to choose from on Soundcloud but I might attempt this again sometime as it was fun, quick, and very straightforward to embed here. And it was frankly easier than having to actually write something.

You can’t go home again

Yesterday, after a rather protracted move, we finally closed the door on our old flat, home for the past four and a half years. Seeing it empty, it was clearer than ever that we’d made the right decision to leave. The rattling windows letting in the sounds and the dirt from the main road outside. The peeling wallpaper. The localised damp. The old kitchen units, about to fall apart. While all these were minor issues, they all added up, especially when you have a letting agent and landlord with no interest in remedying any of it. Read the rest of this entry »
