The War on Drugs – Slave Ambient
by Steve
And now for something free, that is not only legal, but doesn’t involve smashing through a window to get to it. Yep, I’m going to again lean on Soundcloud for some more musical offerings.
Kurt Vile‘s Smoke Ring For My Halo is probably my favourite album of the year so far, so no surprises that I love the new offering from his old band, The War on Drugs. Slave Ambient mixes yer classic rock tropes with some intriguing synth tones and a kind of pseudo-motornik beat. Or something. Anyway, you don’t have to put up with my rotten music criticism, you can listen to it on the little funky gadget below. Enjoy.
So I’ve learned two new things today.
1) Kurt Vile was in The War on Drugs.
2) I’ve wanted to see seen Kurt Vile in concert and have tickets to a fall date here. Ends up I have already seen him, as I saw War on Drugs back in the day. I might have a signed album. I think I drank a beer with the drummer.

Glad to be of service. Although, I must admit I did just frantically Google Kurt Vile/War on Drugs to make sure I hadn’t made the factoid up. I hope he recognises you when he sees you, or at least passes on regards from the drummer.

After further review (I found the signed War on Drugs album) I haven’t seen Kurt Vile in concert yet…he must have left the band by then or wasn’t on tour with them or whatever.
I still think I drank a beer with the drummer, though.
