“Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple.”

  1. Steven Harris says:

Legend has it that on his first ever training session Shankly gathered the players together, slapped a ball down on the grass and said ‘This is the ball. It is your friend.’ Simple and yet genius. Not sure if it was Shanks or Cloughie who shouted at his team in training ‘It’s called football because you;’re meant to keep it near your feet. If It was meant to be in the bloody air all the time it would be called Skyball.’
